The Palau Dalmases

The history of the origins of this Palace dates back to the Middle Ages (12th century). Owned by the medieval church, it passed during the Modern Age to great families of Barcelona, such as the Boixadors and the Grimau, then it was renovated and grew. The house was badly damaged due to bombing during the siege of Barcelona in 1697 and was abandoned. Finally, in 1698, the owners sold it in a ruined state to Pau Dalmases Castells (after whom it is named), who built the house again, with smooth stone walls and important sculptural decoration, in which his son, the intellectual Pau Ignasi Dalmases, one of the most interesting characters in Barcelona, was known for being a great cultural promoter of the time.
